How did the recipe for Amazonian Gold come into form?
This recipe was not invented — it was given.
Every ingredient, every ratio, every adjustment was channeled directly from the plants, the trees, and the jungle itself. We listened, we tasted, we waited, and the cacao guided us into an alchemy far more precise than human logic alone could create.
In the final stages, the guidance became so subtle that the last refinements measured 0.0001 grams per batch — microscopic shifts that created a macro-level harmony, bringing the entire formula into the center of the center.
The result is a cacao balanced across every axis of experience:
taste, aroma, texture, medicine, energy, emotion, time, intensity and physical activation.
A formula designed to guide the body and heart back to Zero Point — the place of pure coherence, inner stillness, and original alignment. The seat of your Soul.
This is why we call it Amazonian Gold. Its frequency anchors the golden current of the Earth into the body, connecting you to the planet’s own golden gridwork. Here, physical pleasure is not separate from spiritual expansion; the sensory experience is part of the precise alchemy that allows the medicine to work.
This cacao is a transmission.
A blueprint.
A remembrance.
What makes Amazonian Gold different from other ceremonial cacaos?
Amazonian Gold is not a blend, a mix, or a trend. It is a lineage returning home. Sourced from wild and heirloom strains in the Ecuadorian Amazon — the birthplace of cacao — this cacao carries the unbroken memory of over 5,500+ years of human-plant relationship.
Every step is done in ceremony, in joy, in listening:
• Helper-crop rotation that nourishes the soil and restores biodiversity
• Biodynamic and ancestral cultivation that honors the pollinators, moon cycles, the rain cycles, and the forest
• Fermentation, sun-drying, and low-heat roasting done as whole beans to maintain energetic coherence
• High-elevation aging of the cacao paste, allowing the cacao’s spirit and flavor to fully harmonize
•
This cacao is gentle yet potent — a heart-opening medicine rather than a stimulant.
It feels like remembering something ancient that the body has always known.
Can I order Legacy Cacao without panela?
We are currently offering our cacao in a fully alchemized, whole-plant formulation. If you’d prefer an unsweetened version (without panela), please send us an email and we’ll notify you when it becomes available.
The addition of panela in the current recipe is intentional: the cane-juice-derived minerals (magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus) bring a grounding energetic support that aligns with the frequency of this cacao. Trust your body’s wisdom — whether you sip one cup, three cups, or simply hold the mug, the medicine is available to you.
What makes Legacy Cacao ‘Ceremonial-Grade’?
Ceremonial-grade cacao is born from purity, potency, and presence — and Legacy Cacao carries all three with an uncommon integrity.
Legacy Cacao is not simply a food; it is a lineage.
Our Fino de Aroma, wild-strain cacao comes from the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest — the cradle of cacao’s birth over 5,500 years ago. Here, in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth, small family farms continue to tend this plant as their ancestors did: with reverence for the soil, the trees, the pollinators, the water, and the spirit of cacao itself.
These growers use traditional, land-honoring practices such as helper-crop rotation, which nourishes the earth and increases the diversity of minerals available to the cacao. They apply biodynamic and ancestral methods to restore harmony down to the microbial level, ensuring that the cacao grows not in isolation, but in relationship with its living ecosystem.
Once harvested, the cacao undergoes a process that is less like manufacturing and more like ritual.
The beans are fermented with care, gently sun-dried, and lovingly roasted at low heat to preserve their native intelligence. They are then stone-ground into a rich paste and mixed in ceremony with their joyful plant allies and mineral companions. This paste is then aged in the Andean mountains, giving the flavors and energies time to settle, open, and harmonize.
Only when the cacao is ready — not rushed — is it refined into its soft, stone-ground texture and packaged in its protective bundles.
Every step is held in prayer, song, dance, joy, and deep presence. Every person who touches this cacao is taught to slow down, to listen, to ensure that its original potency, its teachings, and its subtle frequencies are protected.
The result is a cacao that is both gentle and profoundly activating — a plant medicine that honors its Amazonian origins and meets your heart with the same reverence with which it was created.
This is what makes Legacy Cacao ceremonial-grade:
not only the process, but the spirit carried through it.
Is it raw cacao?
In short, no — and that is part of what makes Legacy Cacao such a potent, fully-activated plant medicine.
“Raw” is generally defined as food not heated above 118°F (47°C). Legacy Cacao follows the traditional Amazonian and Andean preparation path: fermentation, sun-drying, and low-heat roasting — each step an alchemical stage that awakens different aspects of the cacao’s physical, sensory, and energetic intelligence.
FERMENTATION — The First Activation
During fermentation, temperatures naturally rise — often reaching up to 122°F.
This is not a flaw; it is the ancient way.
Fermentation is cacao’s first initiation:
• it develops the deep, rich chocolate profile,
• unlocks the bioavailability of key nutrients,
• reduces bitterness and phytic acid,
• and makes the cacao easier to digest and integrate.
Energetically, fermentation is the phase in which the cacao begins to “wake up.”
It’s the moment the seed remembers it is medicine.
The heat and microbial dance activate the cacao’s spirit while softening its edges so it can meet the human body with more grace.
SUN-DRYING — Integration & Breath
After fermentation, the beans are laid out under the sun — not hurried by machines or forced air.
Sun-drying is more than dehydration; it is integration.
It gives the cacao:
• space to absorb the warmth and codes of the sun,
• space to breathe in open air,
• space to release excess moisture,
• space to stabilize the new intelligence awakened during fermentation.
This is the cacao’s resting stage, similar to how we integrate insights after deep inner work. The beans lie between Earth and Sky, taking their time, attuning themselves to both.
ROASTING — Fire as Ally
Cacao is a four-element plant — Earth, Water, Fire, and Air each play a role in its unfolding.
After sun-drying, the beans are lightly roasted at low temperatures. This final interaction with Fire:
• draws out the more complex flavor notes,
• deepens the aroma,
• further reduces moisture,
• and reveals the cacao’s full nutritional and energetic profile.
The roasting is always done as whole beans, never fractured or rushed, so that the cacao retains maximum flavor, maximum nourishment, and maximum energetic coherence.
THE ALCHEMY OF “NOT RAW”
Every stage of fermentation, drying, and roasting is part of cacao’s initiation journey — a rhythm guided not by industrial efficiency but by nature’s timing.
This is cacao prepared in harmony with the elements, in harmony with tradition, in harmony with the living intelligence of the plant.
It is the opposite of rushed.
It is what allows the cacao to meet you not only as a food, but as a teacher.
Is Legacy Cacao organic?
The farms that we work with to cultivate cacao use ancient and traditional methods that are organic by our definition - but do not undergo the certification process due to the extensive fees. They are very small-scale family farms. In their cultivation practices, they also utilize many methods similar to biodynamic farming - rotating different helper crops to nutrient-load the soil (and therefore the cacao), allowing for a more wild and natural growth (instead of sterile and neat little rows), and listening to the natural rhythm of the plants and seasons. The timing and yield vary from season to season, and these harvests are never rushed. In essence, "Mama Cacao tells us when she's ready."
Preparation
How much Amazonian Gold cacao should I drink?
Let your body set the pace.
Micro dose: 1/4 - 1/2 of a serving for gentle clarity and grounding.
Ceremonial Dose: 1 serving for creativity, focus, and heart-opening.
Deep Ceremony: 2-3 servings paced throughout a whole day or a long night ceremony to enter a fully engaged state of presence and co-creation with the medicine.
Ceremony is not about quantity — it’s about how you meet the cacao.
A single sip with intention can open more than a full cup without presence.
As always, trust your body's wisdom. Every moment of every day offers a different way to meet the cacao.
Why do you suggest adding oil? Can I use a different kind than coconut oil or ghee?
We invite you to add a small amount of ghee or coconut oil because fat is a carrier of light.
In the body, healthy oils act as bridges — they help the cacao’s intelligence travel more smoothly through the nervous system, the brain, and the subtle energy pathways. When you combine cacao with a nourishing fat, the experience becomes steadier, deeper, and more integrated.
Ghee and coconut oil are traditionally used because they hold a naturally stable, clean frequency.
- Ghee carries the essence of fire — clarified, refined, and sattvic — supporting mental clarity and inner warmth.
- Coconut oil embodies lunar softness and openness, helping the heart and body receive the cacao with ease.
That said, the form of the fat is less important than the intention behind it.
If another plant-based or ancestral fat feels true for your body — cacao butter, olive oil, macadamia, even grass-fed butter — you may absolutely use it. Choose the one that feels harmonious and alive to you.
The purpose is simple:
to give the cacao a companion that helps it move through your system with grace, allowing the medicine to anchor more fully in your body, instead of rising too quickly into the mind.
Trust what your body knows. The cacao will meet you there.
**Please note: This information shared above is based on intuitive and anecdotal insights. This aspect of the nutrition of cacao has not been directly studied in a laboratory.
How should I store Amazonian Gold cacao after opening a bag?
Store your cacao as you would store a sacred ally:
• in a cool, dry place
• away from sunlight and humidity
• sealed tightly to protect aroma and potency (either in its original bag closed tightly, or in a glass or ceramic vessel)
If possible, keep it in a spot that feels meaningful — a kitchen altar, a shelf with plants, a place where you pause and breathe.
Energetics matter. Cacao absorbs the atmosphere around it.
Why do you suggest adding honey and salt on top of Amazonian Gold?
Honey and salt are not just flavors — they are keys.
A pinch of mineral salt on top helps “unlock” the cacao by opening the channels of the body. Salt acts like an ancient conductor: it grounds, purifies, and prepares your system to receive the deeper frequency of the cacao.
A drizzle of honey invites sweetness, softness, and coherence. In Amazonian tradition, honey carries the intelligence of thousands of flowers — it brings a higher harmonic that gently lifts the cacao’s energy and weaves it through the heart.
By placing them on top, not mixed in, the first thing that touches your tongue is this trinity of earth (salt), flower (honey), and seed (cacao).
This sequence creates a moment of activation — a subtle initiation — allowing the cacao to open you more fully, both physically and energetically.
Ritual
When is the best time of day/night to enjoy the Cacao?
There is no right or wrong time to drink a cup of Legacy Cacao. That being said, here are some insights into the most common times of the day.
Early Morning: We love starting our day with a cup of cacao as part of an individualized intentional practice. It’s a way to set your mind and spirit’s compass heading for the day. It’s a full meal replacement, packed full of nutrients, healthy fats, and gentle, long-lasting energy. Many of our customers have shared that Legacy Cacao has seamlessly folded into their existing morning ritual and often replaced breakfast, coffee, or even morning tea.
Ritual Inspiration: (1) Awaken the senses and the body with a personalized Ayurvedic dinacharya practice, (2) Prepare your cup of Legacy Cacao, (3) Sip your cacao while journaling, meditating, listening to music, sharing heartfelt conversation with a loved one, etc. (4) Move your energy through a physical practice (breathwork, yoga, sports) or a creative practice (singing, dancing, painting, heartstorming for work projects, etc).
Afternoon: Another time of day our customers seem to love sipping on a cup of Legacy Cacao is in the mid-afternoon to support a reboot of the creative energy, recalibrate back to the heart, and cleanse the mind.
Evening: On special occasions, we often incorporate Legacy Cacao into evening ceremonies - such as the full moon, new moon, sound baths, solstice, or even just a non-alcoholic birthday elixir! While there is very little caffeine present in this cacao, it does often open up creative channels. So some people find themselves in a powerful flow of creativity (rather than sleep) the first few times they try it. Other people experience profound relaxing effects (potentially due to the high magnesium content) and go right to sleep after an evening cup of cacao. Every body is unique. Every day we are a new expression of ourselves. So please always listen to your body’s wisdom.
Can I use Amazonian Gold for ceremony? How do I begin?
Yes — this cacao is crafted for ceremony.
But to us, there is no right or wrong way to do ceremony. It's simply about heart-centered presence. Life is Ceremony.
Some ideas for beginning:
• Before blending your cup, take a few deep breaths. Feel your feet on the ground. Imagine you have roots going down into the Earth offering you stability and support. Then imagine a gentle waterfall of sparkly white light pouring through the top of your head, cleansing any tightness, stuck emotion, or pain.
• Once you start blending, continue deep breaths. Pull your energy up from the ground and down through your crown, meeting at your heart's center. Then comes the fun part... super-blast that energy out through your hand and into the cacao while it's blending. (We usually get full body chills during that part.)
• When you begin sipping your cacao, just take notice of all the little details. Savor the experience through taste, smell, texture, sensation in the body. Slow down for a few minutes.
• Optional bonus - flow into an intentional movement practice or creative session after your cacao time. It often feels like the floodgates open with your energy and your inspiration!
The most important 'ingredients' for ceremony is pure presence, an open-hearted gratitude, and willingness.
Health
Is it safe to drink during pregnancy? Can children drink it?
We believe every human body carries with it innate wisdom that is unique to your blueprint and current needs. Intuitive eating is a powerful practice to explore. We cannot definitively say what is best for you - you are always your own best expert. Rest assured, our cacao has been rigorously tested and does not contain heavy metals.
With that said, Legacy Cacao has deeply and safely nourished many pregnant mommas (including our Co-Founder Searaya). The diversity of vitamins and trace minerals (including iron, calcium, magnesium, and healthy fats) can be a powerful superfood for growing healthy tiny humans. Not to mention the calming effect it has for so many… that can certainly help when those hormone swings kick in. Always check with your healthcare provider, and follow your body’s wisdom.
Does cacao have caffeine? Is it addictive?
Legacy Cacao only contains trace amounts of caffeine. The natural energy boost many experience while drinking Legacy Cacao can be attributed to theobromine. Despite being in the same molecular class of stimulants as caffeine, theobromine does not stimulate the central nervous system. Your brain does not form a chemical bond with the substance and the stimulation from theobromine is more of a general feeling of “being refreshed” or having slept well. Other physical experiences can include feeling more mental clarity, brightness, focus and improved memory.
One of the key differences between theobromine and caffeine is that theobromine is not addictive. On a molecular level, theobromine and caffeine only differ by one methyl group. As caffeine is metabolized by the body, that methyl group is removed and caffeine, therefore, converts to theobromine. This extra methyl group is what makes coffee addictive and brings its effects to the central nervous system.
Theobromine has also been linked to boosted mood, better sleep, deeper breathing (theobromine helps relax your muscles, including the lungs), lower blood pressure, and improved cardiac health.
Many of our community members who had been avid coffee drinkers realized that they were able to easily cut back or fully transition off of caffeine without the withdrawal symptoms when they began a cacao ritual. It just naturally and easily shifted - creating the space within to choose what felt best in their bodies. And when you value Sovereignty, having the space within to be able to feel, hear and CHOOSE is a game-changer.
Does this cacao have sugar in it?
Our Amazonian Gold whole plant recipe includes panela — a minimally processed, dried cane-juice sweetener rich in trace minerals and gentle on the body compared to refined white sugar. Many in our community find it metabolizes differently, and its frequency supports the energetic intention of the cacao alchemy.
Will I still receive the benefits of the plant medicine if I half the recipe?
As with all plant medicine, please trust your Soul's calling and your body's wisdom. This lineage has a very potent, yet balanced feminine and masculine essence. It's alchemy is balanced across all planes and dimensions in order to support you anchoring in your deep center point, or 'Zero Point.' It can bring you back into the medicine of the Amazon Rainforest, whether you have one sip or 3 cups. It is deeply available in all physical and energetic forms.
